Throughout the history of Western civilization, architectural and furniture
embellishments have drawn on powerful elements found in nature. The cluster of
grapes has been incorporated into design since the time of the early Greeks.
Ever since, annual celebrations of the harvest have been used to remind us how
nature's abundance makes for a carefree and joyous human life.
Just as the vine grows to produce luscious grapes as the fruit of its labor, every
human being is abundantly prepared to live a fruitful life. To better understand this
inherent abundance, we can make a metaphor between the seeds that grow to
become grapes and the growth of our own individual gifts and talents.
If we view each of our personal gifts as analogous to the seeds that define future
grapes, we each have a unique pattern of personal potentials that we can grow over
the course of a lifetime to mature capabilities.
The faceted rock quartz crystal beads represent our truly human ability to draw
insights from all of our past experiences. In this way, the decisions we make about
how we will live our life in the future will benefit from this wisdom. Still, life's
fluctuating circumstances will always challenge our abilties. And so, we need to
extend kindness and gentleness toward ourselves, as symbolized by the new jade
(serpentine) stone from which this grape cluster has been hand-carved.
Our seedling gifts nurtured to their fullfillment will forever be more fruitful than the most
voluptuous grapes. For our lives will make purposeful difference in the lives of others
and, in turn will allow us to discover the ultimate experience of human joy.
